If you’re getting married soon, chances are you’re gearing up to create your own wedding registry. Before you grab the barcode scanner and start scanning porcelain gravy boats and sterling silver cheese platters, take a spin through our very own Havenly approved checklist for 20 home essentials that you need on your registry!

1. Drinkware

Whether you’re entertaining or staying in on a Friday and watching some Netflix, spring for some quality glassware for your registry. It’s the little luxuries that make that glass of cabernet taste just a little sweeter.

2. Dishes

Choose a simple style that will work for all seasons–especially if you live in a small space. A style that works for both a Thanksgiving dinner and a summer fête will last you a lifetime–and remember that you can never go wrong with classic white plates.

3. Flatware

With a number of finishes at all different price points, flatware is a great way to add a special accent to your table. Word of warning: if you’re not a fan of washing dishes by hand, be sure to double check if the flatware you choose is dishwasher safe!

4. Servingware

If you have the space, having actual serving dishes for dinner parties can make a world of a difference in terms of presentation. No more serving spaghetti out of the skillet!

5. Bar cart + tools

Remember that thing we said about presentation? Same goes for your booze. Don’t forget to stock it with essential bar tools and a small cutting board for garnishes.

6. Bedding

More than just your average sheet set and comforter. Consider adding a duvet, which is easier to remove and clean, as well as a quilt or coverlet for warmer months. For a cozy look, layer in euro shams behind your standard shams, and add a few throw pillows for an accent.

7. Picture frames

Where else are you going to display all your wedding photos? Be sure to add smaller options for accessorizing nightstands and shelves, but also larger options with included mats for a chic gallery wall.

8. Baskets and large storage

Baskets by the bed or sofa are great for corralling extra throw pillows or blankets — and don’t forget about organizing your closets!

9. Robes & slippers

For lazy Sundays spent reading the paper with a warm cup of coffee. Go for a luxe material here — cashmere or a plush terrycloth will make a world of a difference in the cooler months.

10. Towels

Isn’t it time to upgrade your hand-me-down towels? You can never go wrong with solid white towels — they’re easy to clean and go well with all design styles. If you’d like to incorporate a little more personality, pick out some patterned hand towels to use in your guest bath and powder room.

11. Bath mats

Soft is key here — keep your clean toes happy with a super soft bath rug. For a more modern, spa look, teak bath mats are a great alternative.

12. Small storage

Jewelry, cosmetics, toiletries… all of these need a home! Whether it’s a pretty jewelry box, necklace stand, or small trays, small storage pieces help to keep your vanity neat and organized.

13. Bath accessories

The disposable soap pump has got to go. Spring for a coordinated set that will make your guest bathroom feel like a spa.

14. Shower curtains

These are such a fun way to add a little personality and set the mood and style for your bathroom. Consider registering for a couple different styles, so you can change up your bathrooms look from season to season!

15. Pillows

Pillows for your bed, pillows for your sofa, pillows for the entryway bench… in our opinion, you can never have too many pillows! Pro tip: register for pillow covers in the same size, so you can swap out your pillow covers from season to season, using the same pillow inserts.

16. Throw blankets

Nothing says “romance” quite like cuddling up under a super soft, plush throw. Cashmere is our go to for a classic look, but chunky knits are another great option for a more eclectic look.

17. Candles

Set the mood and add some fragrance — candles will never go out of style. Choose scents on the subtler side so they don’t overpower the room.

18. Coffee table books

These are an often overlooked home essential that can add a little interest to your living room and help you fill your bookshelves in a designer approved way.

19. Knick knacks

Small figurines, vases, sculptural objects… this product category has something for everyone! Look for taller sculptures-on-stands for styling mantles and bookshelves, and smaller items that can rest on top of books for easy coffee table styling.

20. Artwork

We saved the best for last… artwork! Choose a couple pieces that have meaning to you as a couple — maybe it’s a map of where you’re getting married or where you first met, or a photograph of a place you’ve traveled together.
