The best part of working in this business?  The people, obvs!  Our clients are the best (and most stylish) around– and we’re going to start featuring their room makeovers on a regular basis.

A dear friend of the co-founders/sisters’ just happened to be one of Havenly’s very first clients (lucky guy had the inside scoop).  Upon collaborating with Dilip on his New York Apartment room design, they realized they were onto something with this affordable, easy, online decorating thing.  Talk about convenient– this model is a guy’s dream.  Without further ado, let’s meet Dilip.

WHO:  Dilip A. – New York Bachelor (age 30), Director at American Express, and MBA Candidate at Columbia Business School

WHERE:  A Brooklyn Brownstone in the Greenpoint neighborhood.  (Anyone watch the HBO show GIRLS? This is where the show is set and filmed).

Dilip was quite pleased to learn of Lee and Emily’s new venture– furnishing a new place can be overwhelming.  He rightly assumed this meant he’d have to do very little work on his own.  Photos of his initially empty apartment bedroom….

WHAT HE WANTED:  It was important to our client that his place look purposefully composed but not “decorated.”  With only a mattress in tow, he was truly beginning from scratch.  “It was overwhelming to even think about planning out my bedroom and living room,” said Dilip.  “I didn’t know where to start, nor did I have the patience to deal with shopping around.”  Specifically, Dilip wanted more storage, a way to conceal the closet, floor covering, a workspace, lighting, and a bed made out of a non-wood medium.  He was happy with his personal art collection and wanted those pieces displayed in the new room.

WHAT HE GOT:  Shelby (our Director of Design) took a first run at his bedroom and sent him 2 concepts boards.  Both made use of his own art (which was important to the client) and attempted to stay true to Dilip’s modern/clean aesthetic.

Dilip found himself drawn to elements from both.  He really liked the vintage-looking campaign dresser and the rustic wood-topped desk in the first board but wasn’t a fan of the rug.  After some back and forth, the pair settled on this final design for Dilip’s bedroom…

Everyone was pleased!

“I appreciated that my designer incorporated the artwork and framed prints I’d wanted to keep– they are embodiments of who I am,” explained Dilip.  “I also made a specific request to cover my completely open closet in an unobtrusive way which my designer did with a heavy gray curtain.  It’s not the eye sore I expected- rather it looks pretty pulled together, in my opinion.”

THE REAL DEAL:  We visited Dilip’s place after Havenly had ordered and coordinated shipping for all of his new merchandise.  Suffice it to say, this is one pad any bachelor could be proud to show off!  Take a look….

Final Words from Dilip: For me, this was was the easiest process ever – I was able to get everything designed and delivered within 2 weeks, which relieved a lot of stress when I was moving into my new place.  My designer was able to translate my style into something that was attainable for me.

We’re so happy with the way things turned out– and most importantly to us, so is Dilip!  How do you feel about his new bachelor pad?  Tell us on Instagram #GetDecorated
