By now, you’ve seen all of the buzz around Pantone’s announcement of 2018’s “Color of the Year” and have probably formed a strong opinion for or against it.  I’ll admit, I was not a fan on day one, but given some time to soak it in, Ultra violet is starting to grow on me.  While it still feels a little like a flashback to childhood, we’re committed to a whole year with this color, so might as well make the most of it.  I doubt you’ll want to use this color in large doses (unless you’re Monica Gellar), so we’ve rounded up some more accessible ways to incorporate this bold color into your home. We’ve even created a shopping list of Ultra Violet pieces, just for you!

Colors that pair well with Ultra Violet

Pairing Ultra Violet with other shades and variations of purple will help tone down this bold color, and make it feel more approachable – and less garish.

Shades of yellow (or gold) are a foolproof pairing with Ultra Violet since purple and yellow are complementary colors on the color wheel.  Have some gold accents in your home already?  You’re already ahead of the game!

Purple is also a common color found in nature – your favorite flower, the perfect sunset – take direction from mother earth to make Ultra Violet feel like a natural addition to your home.  Pair it with blues, greens, and even warm pinks for a well-balanced, non-garish design.

Subtlety is key

Because Ultra Violet is bold and bright, it can feel daunting to make it work with your current decor.  And, it’s a color that doesn’t have to work hard to completely steal the spotlight.  Easy does it!  Picking one signature piece of furniture or decor can be just the right touch to prove to your friends and family that you’ve always got one finger on the latest design trends.

Some decor suggestions include:  an accent chair or ottoman in the living room, decorative throw pillows in the bedroom, playful artwork in the foyer, or vases and fresh florals throughout your home.

Purple is a regal color that has long held associations with royalty and power. Bring Ultra Violet into your home for just the right touch of luxurious color with our shopping list here
