Our harvest moon dinner party was a lovely way to spend a cool evening. The food was fresh and flavorful, the table setting was gorgeous, and the company was excellent. As the hot sun slipped down below the horizon, the mood was set by an eclectic playlist that kept the guests grooving all evening long. We’ve pulled together some of our favorite tunes for giving your own party those same end-of-summer vibes.

Holding On– The War On Drugs

From The War On Drug’s latest album, this synth infused pop is mellow, with eighties vibes that bring to mind a futuristic Bruce Springsteen. This song sets a chill tone ideal for the cocktail hour.

Can’t Surf– Beach Party

Ironic surf pop feels like summer, warm chords and twangy notes included. The slow opening tones rise to a rock and roll crescendo that will keep any party going. Pairs great with a gorgeous sunset.

Why Should I Worry–  Justin Hinds & The Dominoes

Bright jazz trumpets and melodic vocals add a vintage vibe to any setting. The upbeat lyrics help set a carefree tone, which if you ask us is the whole point of a dinner party.

Wild Thoughts– DJ Khaled, Rihanna, Bryson Tiller

Its 2017, and no party is truly a party without a Rihanna track. We still love this song-of-the-summer track, with it’s Santana guitars and sultry lyrics. It’s always good to throw a mega-hit in the mix, it keeps the people happy.

Hey Mami- Sylvan Esso

Bright and harmonic, this song gets everyone swaying whether they mean to or not. Its meditative lyrics almost create an instrumental effect, while a killer beat feels right as the evening gets darker and the alcohol keeps flowing.

Harvest Moon– Neil Young

What kind of “harvest moon” playlist would this be without the song that coined the phrase in our popular consciousness? You all should have known this was coming.

Every 1’s a Winner– Hot Chocolate

No playlist is complete without some funk, perfect for lively conversation but always open to impromptu dance parties. This track’s muddy guitar hook is just an added bonus to its mood boosting message.

Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now– The Smiths

British alt-rock gives the party a breather, and a reminder that things could be a lot worse. Even so, the sunny sounds of the guitar make this song a perfect fit for an outdoor venue. We’ve been in the house too long, indeed.

Rock Steady– Alton Ellis & The Flames

End the night with the sylvan sound of Jamaican crooner Alton Ellis. Slower than ska, rocksteady is the perfect beat for winding down the evening, refusing your guests’ offers to help with the dishes, and basking in the glow of a party well-thrown.

With our song suggestions in your back pocket, you’ll have your own summer harvest party going in no time. Just don’t forget to invite us.
