It’s almost Valentine’s day, and while there are plenty of classic ways to celebrate the holiday with the people you love, we decided to take a low-key approach this year. We imagined a romantic, euro-inspired dinner for two. After all, the way to the heart is through the stomach! So whether you’re celebrating a valentine, a galentine, or just treating yourself, here’s how we pulled together a romantic table worthy of a fabulous, home-cooked meal.

Pick A Novel Location

Try switching up your usual dining scene by moving your table away from the kitchen. Rearrange the furniture and stick it in the bay window, or repurpose a smaller side table for an intimate setting! Use a tablecloth to make it feel special and intimate rather than makeshift.

Consider the Culinary Experience

Choose a meal that reflects your relationship– it doesn’t have to be fancy! High quality ingredients will go a long way towards making that everyday dish something special. To further distinguish your date night from the usual, round out the meal with several courses. A cheese plate, a unique salad, and a decadent dessert will make the whole evening feel like an occasion, without the expensive prix fixe menu.

Bring in Eclectic Elements

To make your table feel like you took a trip to a European capital, try blending elements for a warm, layered feel. Cloth napkins in a pattern don’t have to match to look beautiful, and mixing metallics is totally fine too. We love an antiqued gold finish (in say, a set of candlesticks) paired with the rougher texture of steel napkin rings and vintage silverware. Plates can be mismatched too- all the better to make the setting feel straight out of a Parisian Cafe.

Sometimes, More is More

We love a minimalist look, but sometimes, more really is more. Add flowers with a show-stopping vase, but don’t hesitate to springs a handful amongst the flatware too. Tall taper candles (in black, natch) add a dramatic touch, but there’s still plenty of room for votives to add sparkle. Add accessories to your table like you’re a bohemian artist– anything that catches the eye is totally fair game.

With this advice, you’ll be ready to host a romantic meal in no time. Don’t forget to shop the look in time for your special evening!.
