The new year is a perfect time to look ahead and plan for the year. For interior designers, that also means thinking about the trends they’re noticing in the home space. While some things are just classic , other elements have a definite ebb and flow. So, we rounded up some of our favorite emerging trends that we expect to see make major waves in 2018. Which one do you like the most?

Antique Mirrors

We’ve noticed lots of these popping up, but not the way you might imagine. While they look beautiful in a traditional setting, we expect to see lots of antique mirrors juxtaposed with more modern pieces for an eclectic look. This beautiful mirror is the Gleaming Primrose mirror from Anthropologie, available here.

New Neutrals

The classics certainly aren’t going anywhere (where would we be without white and grey, after all?), but we are loving less traditional neutrals, particularly olive green. It works to bring a moody feel to any space, but doesn’t feel too bold.

Modern and Bold

Modern furniture isn’t a new thing, but we think shapes are going to ratchet up another notch on the boldness scale for 2018. Curvilinear shapes influenced by Italian modernism and retro futurism are already starting to appear. This chair is the Azalea Grey Mink Chair from CB2.

Spa Influenced Design

2017 was a tumultuous year, which is maybe why we’re seeing lots of spa-like design looks that are uber relaxing to the eye. Think all-white or all-neutral, with natural elements like plants that definitely help create resort spa vibes. This look is all about total comfort, and we’re really digging it for 2018.

Bold Colors

In contrast to the above trend, we’ve also noticed a lot of bright bold jewel tones popping up. Think colors inspired by travels to India and Dubai– super saturated and rich. Pantone recognized the trend with it’s 2018 color of the year, Ultra Violet, so we know this trend is definitely a big one.
