This original of this piece is an acrylic painting on canvas. It began as a very controlled abstract, with deliberate strokes and color choices. However, as the painting progressed, layer by layer, it became clear to me that the meticulous nature of the composition left something missing. Determined not to overthink it, I painted the final layers using a much more free, unbridled style that echoed my state of mind and at the time, which added depth and a poignant sense of whimsy to the composition.
