It’s easy to get all aspirational these days. We find beautiful photography at the swipe of a smartphone and inspiring lifestyles at every neighborhood blog. Yet we’re often held back from making the leap from desire to reality by all that life stuff – time, money, the fear of failure, etcetera!

So it’s always motivating to meet someone who charts out her dreams, dives in and makes the world wonder how the heck she did it. This is the moment in our story when we introduce Katherine T., the force behind Style Tab – one of our favorite fashion and style blogs. A self-described “shrimp enthusiast, Merlot drinker and crazy cat lady,” Katherine is one of those folks we look to for inspiration. So we were elated when she came to Havenly looking for a hand in redecorating her living room.

Katherine's Design Process

After taking our free style quiz to discover her style preferences (turns out she’s eclectic!) we paired paired Katherine with design Diana B. The two spent an hour chatting on the phone about the results of Katherine’s style quiz, her design preferences, favorite shops, her budget and anything else that might be related to the living room design process. In Katherine’s words: “Diana instantly understood my design struggles and eventually helped me hone in on my interior aesthetic and rid me of the indecisiveness that had plagued me for so long.”

The design concepts above reflect the efforts of that initial conversation. While it might be difficult to notice right off the bat, these concepts are steeped in Katherine’s unique style and personality. After reviewing the concepts, chatting back and forth and doing a significant amount of online window shopping, it was time to move on to the final design renderings.

Room Renderings

“Diana sent me my final designs. It was so cool to see all of our decisions come to life in the digital rendering. I’m a very visual person, so the concepts and the final designs helped me immensely in the whole process. It’s crazy how just a few minor tweaks, like moving our taxidermy deer head to the other side of the room, made such a huge difference. Overall, I could not be happier with the final results.” – Katherine T.

Design Lessons Learned

Before we send you off into the vast expanses of WWWs, we feel compelled to mention that you, too, can be the type of person that your friends and family look at and say, “Amazing! How does she do it?!” And here are three examples of how online interior design will help you get there:

1. Instant adulthood. Nothing feels grown up quite like a well-put-together home. And heck, uttering, “I’m redecorating my living room” is an instant adult level-up.

2. Design insurance. It’s easier to love all those pretty things before you have to fit each of them into a cohesive space that doesn’t make you feel claustrophobic. So if you’re going to invest in a home decorating project, you’d be wise to take out a little “design insurance” so you’re not left with an expensive mess on your hands.

3. Keeping the dream alive. Sometimes it’s difficult to imagine what’s possible until you actually do it. And when it comes to interior design, it often seems easier to accept an “I’ll never achieve that” mentality than it is to follow through. But with a fixed price, one-on-one expert design advice, 3D room rendering and a happiness guarantee, online interior design is a brilliant reason not to let your dreams die on Pinterest.
