Believe it or not, it’s entirely possible to envy your own home.
It might seem counter intuitive, and maybe slightly silly, but there may come a time when you feel that covetous green feeling spring up from thinking about your very own living room!
There are two scenarios in which this phenomenon of self home envy is especially prevalent: 1.) People undergoing a home redesign project, and 2.) people undergoing a design project for a home they haven’t moved into yet!
Self Home Envy – Case In Point
Sarah F.'s New Home Design Project
When it came time for havenly customer Sarah F. and her husband to move into a new home, you wouldn’t imagine that there was much to envy. The cleaning, packing, organizing, logistics – all the boxes for typical moving nuisances were checked. But there’s a silver lining to this move, and we were thrilled to be a part of it.
You see, in addition to Sarah’s new home, she was also anticipating a new home design. The previous owners decorating was a bit dark, and certainly left plenty of opportunity for design aspirations.
So after taking the quick Havenly style quiz, Sarah narrowed down our list of designers and chose to work with Stafford B. (wise choice, we must admit!). After sharing details about the new space, her budget and some inspiring photos, the design project got underway.

Outlining The Design

Stafford: “I kept these light and pretty but still with some of the iron and bronze details that you like. Both rooms feel super cozy to me, and I can even see a good mix of the products together in the room if you were to take items from each concept.”
Sarah: “I have had so much fun looking at everything! We were definitely drawn more towards concept 2, but there were some items from concept 1 that we really liked too. The items we LOVED and definitely want to keep in the next rendering are the rustic storage coffee table, the Buchanan square arm curved sectional, the empire scroll rug, and the scalloped chandelier.”
Narrowing In On The Vision
Sarah’s Initial Room Design – Are we feeling envious yet?
Sarah: “This all looks so amazing!! I just love it! I only have one thing to note. My husband is not a fan of the bookshelf. I love the size and openness of it, but I think he wants something a little softer. It is also a little more expensive than I would like to spend, given our budget. I am so excited to see this room come together! Thank you so much!”
Stafford: “So glad you love it! Bet you’re even more excited to move in now. 🙂 I can find a new bookcase for the final design and add some alternates to your final shopping list as well. Maybe something without metal parts to it so that it looks a little softer? II’ll see what I can find that’s a little more reasonable / aesthetically pleasing for your husband.”

Final touches in place, Sarah’s home-to-be was really taking shape. With all of the moving still ahead of her and the design already accomplished, it’s not difficult to imagine that there was a little bit of self home envy happening at this point.
Sarah: “Thank you so much, this looks fantastic! I am so excited to move in, and start to see it all come to life!”
