Moving in with your significant other is a stressful but exciting time, as you have to coordinate habits, sleep schedules, and—equally difficult—décor styles. Many of our Havenly clients are couples who are struggling to decorate a space that works for both of them.
The latest was Carly, the brunette blogger behind The College Prepster, which advises her loyal legions of readers on life, style, and everything in between.
We’ve long loved Carly’s preppy, classic style and our Director of Design, Shelby, worked with Carly to design her darling Upper East Side. With a pink couch, polka dot throw pillows, and lots of prep, this apartment design was perfect for the girly blogger and her pint-sized pup. Sadly, it was not exactly boy friendly.
Carly recently made the move from Manhattan to Greenwich, Connecticut, with her boyfriend, Garrett, and they needed a space that worked for them both. Carly turned again to Shelby, as she was confident Havenly could help.
She says, “My old apartment had a lot of pink and was very girly. While I thought it was very ‘me,’ it definitely wasn’t very ‘us.’ We wanted something that was gender-neutral and that felt more grown-up. Playing off our new location, we envisioned a coastal-inspired classic living room.
Shelby helped me with my apartment in NYC and I loved what she came up with for that so I was very excited to see what she would design for our new living room. I was a little insane when describing what I wanted (coastal, not beachy; grown up, not stuffy; no pink and no man cave… the list went on), but Shelby took it all and brought it to life! It really feels like us now.”
The result? A classic, all-American livingroom that’s cozy and comfortable for the duo and their mini doodle, Teddy. With navy Trellis pillows and a striped rug, the vibe is preppy without being overly feminine—perfect for sharing a space.
