How to Decorate Without Sacrificing Style

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, but I have a confession to make… I find it very hard to decorate for. Why does everything have to be so orange? From pumpkins to candy corn, it can be difficult to create the Halloween spirit without the spicy color. The good news is that there are other options and in most cases, these other options will seamlessly blend with your existing décor. Win-win!

Modernize Your Pumpkins

I still love carving my own pumpkins, but that doesn’t have to be your only option. This time of year, pumpkins are the medium of choice for some amazing DIY projects. They typically involve paint and a little time, but look at how gorgeous these pumpkins are! They’ll easily fit in with your mantel decor or table centerpiece. Try all white or metallic paints for a truly modern look.

Celebrate The Season

It’s not necessary to plaster our homes with witches, scarecrows and spiders to convey the spirit of the season. Although they can be great for outside decor, instead of focusing on the characters of the season, focus on the elements of the season. Earthy tones and elements like wood, branches, berries and leaves still feel like Halloween, but aren’t so overt. Grab your rattan baskets and the currently-very-popular eucalyptus leaves to get you in the spirit!

Get Moody

If the spirit you’re after is on the spookier side, go for black accents in a gothic style. Pieces like ornate mirrors, dark lighting and candles all create a more sinister vibe.
