When Rachael and her husband Joel found out that they would be having their first kiddo, making space for a nursery probably wasn’t the first thing on their minds. But their baby girl was on her way and the family needed a space for her to grow in.
Design projects, such as a nursery, can often look simple at face value. You start with an empty space, fill it with furniture and decor and you’re done. And on rare occasions it is (almost) that simple. For Rachael and her husband, the nursery-to-be was currently serving as their home office. The couple had a difficult time imagining the space as a girl’s nursery.
Rachael: “The ultimate goal was to get help with a room that I found to have be a challenging space. We used it as an office and I was having a hard time visualizing it as a nursery. With a large room and so many ideas I needed help getting my thoughts down on paper.”
After selecting Shelby G. as her Havenly designer, Rachael embarked on her nursery design project.
A Family’s First Nursery
The Design Concepts

Shelby:“For concept 1, I went for a light, bright, white look with lots of texture. Here I imagined the room without the sofa, placing the crib in the center of the room. I understand this might not be the most practical, so we can put the sofa in this scheme as well if you want 🙂 For concept 2, I went a bit more colorful and incorporated the sofa. I’m not sure of the window dimensions, but can adjust the shade sizes accordingly if you can measure those. I also couldn’t quite see if there was a chandelier in the center of the room as well as in the window nook.”
Rachael: “I LOVE BOTH! This is so hard but I think I want to mix a little from both. I do like the color in Concept 2 and think that is more fun but do like some of the furniture pieces from Concept 1. I love the idea of the crib in the middle and had thought about that before but don’t know how practical it is. In Concept 2 I love the rug the only problem I am having is that I have a rug that is so similar now but its pink and I guess I could keep it but I do like all the white furry in Concept 1.”

Shelby: For the renderings, I loved the teepee but didn’t feel like it’d fit with all of the other bigger pieces. I also wanted to show you the idea of adding just a touch of black which I think will help tie in the dark doors so I added a dotted rug and pillow on the chair with a little black. Let me know if you want to see any other options, and I can add them to your list. Thanks so much!”
Rachael: “Hi! Everything is looking just perfect. I love that you added the black and it’s the perfect amount. Thanks again I am getting really excited to start ordering stuff!”
