When we started making playlists to accompany some of our favorite events and design styles, we weren’t sure how best to present them to you, our faithful readers. In fact, for several months, those playlists lived on my personal Spotify account. While it was flattering to receive follows from strangers as they discovered our Havenly playlists through our social media, it didn’t feel quite right. After all, the world doesn’t need to know that I’ve been listening to New Rules by Duo Lipa fifteen times a day for the past two months. We’ve finally solved that problem- a dedicated Havenly spotify account with all of our best playlists in one place, without the clutter of my own mixes from 2013. On top of that, we’ve decided to create Havenly Listens, a playlist of the music we’re really digging at the moment. After all, the people who work here are pretty cool and have great music taste, if we do say so ourselves. Find the link to our playlist (don’t forget to follow!) and a roundup of its newest songs below for your enjoyment.
May I Have This Dance- Francis and the Lights
It sounds like Peter Gabriel, in the best way. It starts simply, with a few synthy chords, but builds to a pulsing chorus. The lyrics are sweet, almost naively so, but in a way that is reminiscent of old school optimism.
Raspberry Beret- Prince
A classic dance track, this tune is the perfect barometer for anyone they meet: if they don’t start bopping around immediately, they’re probably not worth hanging out with. The chorus, too, is iconic for a reason. Just try to keep this out of your head.
Old Flames (Can’t Hold A Candle To You)- Kesha and Dolly Parton
This alt country track is a new direction for Kesha, but somehow she manages to perfectly mesh with Dolly’s iconic sound. This song sounds like it’s been around forever, and has amazing cover art as well. Plus, Dolly is a living legend.
Dreams- The Cranberries
In both mourning and celebration, we added this iconic song to our playlist and reignited our love of early 90s rock. A tumbling melody paired with Dolores O’Riordan’s otherworldly voice is an utterly winning combination.
Night Shift- Lucy Dacus
A single from this indie queen’s sophomore album, Night Shift is as heartbreaking as it is relatable. Whether or not you are unlucky in love, this track will stick with you long after its last note.
