havenly-crane-and-canopySleep is crucial for mental performance, health, and sanity. You might not even know it, but your sleepless nights could all be due to the fact that you are sleeping with the incorrect pillow. Finding the right pillow for your sleeping style is crucial to getting your best night’s sleep, but choosing the perfect one can be a daunting task. We’ve teamed up with Crane & Canopy, an online luxury bedding brand, to help ensure you wake up feeling rested, without any kinks in your neck! They recommend these four steps to finding the perfect pillow:

havenly-crane-and-canopy-21. Know what kind of sleeper you are. Before you even begin looking for pillows, you need to identify how you sleep. Are you a side sleeper, back sleeper, or stomach sleeper? This is crucial to choosing the correct pillow, because depending on how you sleep, you require different levels of support and firmness.

  • Side sleepers. If you are a side sleeper, you should be looking for a more firm and full pillow. The pillow should fill the gap between your shoulder, neck, and head to keep your body aligned.
  • Back sleepers. If you sleep on your back, you should be shopping for a more flat pillow, so your head is not propped too far forward, with more fill near the bottom to properly support your neck.
  • Stomach Sleepers. If you are a stomach sleeper, you may not need a pillow at all, but if you like having something, look for a very soft and flat pillow that barely lifts your head.

2. Look at the fill. Poly-hypoallergenic is more firm, and can be cheaper and great for those with allergies, while goose is softer and longer lasting, but can also be much pricier.

3. Wash your pillow frequently. Washing your pillow frequently is very important, as it is a warm place that collects dust mites, skin cells, fungus, mold, and mildew. Experts recommend washing your pillows at least twice a year to ensure these buildups are removed (gross, right?).

4. Replace your pillow regularly. Sleep experts say you should be replacing your pillow every 12-18 months to ensure your pillow is properly supporting you during sleep. As soon as you notice it is uneven or you start waking up with neck pains, it’s time to get a new pillow. With these simple, but important steps, you will find yourself sleeping better in no time!
