Your bedside table has long been known as the catch-all space for late night snacks, boring alarm clocks, books, and magazines. But what if there was a way to reorganize this highly valuable bedroom real estate so that it can be both functional and stylish? We have some ideas. Here are our tips for freshening up your nightstand in four easy steps:

1. Scented candles. Having a scented candle on your bedside table is an absolute must as far as we’re concerned. It’s the perfect way to de-stress after a long day’s work and helps soothe your mind so that you can peacefully fall asleep. We have a major obsession when it comes to Diptyque candles. The brand is a bit more expensive, but each scent has a 72 hour burning time, which is higher than the standard candle. If you’re new to the brand, we highly recommend Feu de Bois–it has a sophisticated blend of rare woods, which is the perfect scent as we approach the colder seasons ahead.

2. Books. We’re the type of people who enjoy reading a book during our nightly routines! We find that it helps soothe our minds and focus our attention. While your coffee table might be an excellent spot for books with large pages and gorgeous photography, your bedside table will happily hold neatly stacked smaller books.

3. Jewelry dishes. Having a jewelry dish on your bedside table is essential if you love to accessorize. There’s nothing more uncomfortable than sleeping with a clunky watch on, or cocktail rings for that matter! The dish will keep your jewelry organized–because there’s nothing worse than waking up with an earring tangled in your hair–been there, done that!

4. Fresh florals. Flowers are the perfect addition to any bedside table–hydrangeas are my go-to flowers during the summertime, and roses come winter. They bring life to your bedside table and go nicely alongside scented candles.
