For some of us men, thinking about where to start an interior design project can lead to staring out the window, and staring out the window can lead to fantasizing about how cool it would be to commute to work by skateboard, and come to think of it, why didn’t Brendan return that crescent wrench he borrowed last year? Five hours later, we’re eating take-out sushi in bed.

This series of events might sound like an exaggeration, but these design dead-ends are all too common for men. That doesn’t mean that we don’t have good intentions when it comes to design. We recognize that our homes deeply impact our quality of life. We want and strive for good design. And you’d be mistaken to think that we limit our style endeavors to clothing. So with these style-seeking men in mind, we’ve put together a list of the top 7 reasons that guys are falling hard for interior design.

1. Because The Dude Abides

Whether he knows it or not, every guy out there has been influenced by Jeff Bridges’ character, Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski. Not only did this character spawn a branch of philosophy known as Dudeism, but he introduced many a young man to the value of a well-chosen rug, for in the words of The Dude himself, “That rug really tied the room together.”

2. Because It Gets The Creative Juices Flowing

Yes, there’s a difference between enjoying a space and having the critical design skills to build one from scratch. The collaborative process of working with a professional designer to design, revise to perfection, and shop for everything needed to complete a space is the perfect creative setup for a successful space.

3. Because Communicating Your Style Is Hard

The Havenly process kicks off each project with a style survey to help hone in on specific style preferences. An in-depth interview with a Havenly designer goes over details like space aspirations, design preferences, budgetary concerns, and inspirations. This all helps to ensure that every aspect of a guy’s beer-brewing, record-collecting personality gets incorporated into his home design.

4. Because Sophistication Counts

These design-inspired guys know that a stylish home can be life affirming. It opens the door to new opportunities, like hosting dinner parties that convince his friends and family he’s more than an overgrown teenager.

5. Because It’s Time To Up Your Pre-Gaming

The time and a place for fake wood paneling and neon Budweiser signs is anytime after 11:00pm at your local dive bar. When it comes to your own bar, be it an expansive home bar room or a debonair bar cart, drinking at home has reached a whole new level of style.

6. Because Good Design Is An Investment Worth Making

Our favorite masculine spaces tend to feel collected rather than decorated. They offer up timeless tastes that look good when mixed with any seasonal or trending wardrobe styles. In short, the design foundations established by Havenly will last a lifetime.

7. Because Kitchens Are Complicated

What’s a utensil crock? Why does silverware need organizing? Why would a spoon ever need a rest? The answers to these infinite kitchen styling questions are included in the price of every Havenly design project. So whether you just need to know what serveware works best for a charcuterie party or which color palettes go best with whiskey, we’ve got you covered.

The journey from simple to suave can take time. It requires us to incorporate design into our lives in meaningful ways – and that ain’t always easy! However, if we keep our mission simple, we’ll get there. So just like our design comrades at Frank & Oak, we’re embracing our mission to help a generation of men live well.
