Spring is just around the corner (finally!), which also means that for a lot of people, moving season is just about to happen! It’s the time of year when homes are listed and deals are made, so we wanted to bring you some of our best design advice tailored to those of you who are moving, selling, or buying!

What paint colors should I choose? Do I have to paint everything beige?

This all depends on what kind of style you’re going for! If light and bright is your goal, then aim for light colored neutrals — and no, that doesn’t necessarily mean beige. I actually tell most clients to aim for a “greige” — a pretty blend of grey and beige, you can think of it sort of as a warm tint to an off white color, without it being too yellow. For rooms with a great focal point, like a tall vaulted ceiling or a wall with a grand fireplace, also think about if you want an accent wall, which you can coordinate with your furniture and decor.

What are some high impact ways to make your home look awesome during a showing?

A deep clean and fresh greenery! Seriously, we cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have every surface clean, dust-, and clutter-free. Fresh flowers on the dining table, kitchen counter, bathroom counters are also a great way to make make your home feel fresh and inviting.

What about those real estate photos? Do you have any tricks for making them stand out?

Lighting is key! Make sure you’re getting great natural light at the time of your shoot, or be sure to turn on overheads and accent lighting. Keep clutter to a minimum, but add “livable” accents like vases of fresh flowers, trays or bowls of fruit, and plenty of accents for spots like your coffee table

Do I have to get rid of all my personal style in order to sell my house?

I would think of it more as an exercise in making your house more palatable to a wider range of styles — you want home buyers to feel like they can make this house their own and not feel pigeon holed into one specific style!
