There’s nothing like daydreaming of lazy afternoons spent outside (with friends and cocktails!) in the dead of winter – and no better welcome to summer than with a refresh of your outdoor space. For Havenly designer Kylee T., she used her skills and innate style to give her Denver backyard patio a major facelift.

So, how do you redo your patio like a pro?

Kylee Patio 1Kylee began her redesign by thinking of her patio not just as a space outside of her home, but as an extension of her home. She wanted her patio to be a place that she and her husband could relax and hang out, so comfort was key when picking pieces. She also channeled “resort vibes” to create a tropical, yet serene, aesthetic.

The first step in Kylee’s makeover was the addition of a pergola, which gave her patio a shape and frame to build the rest of the space around. This allowed her to easily define what part of the patio would be used for lounging, and what would function for grilling, storage, etc.

Kylee Patio 2She then developed a moodboard using Pinterest, magazines, and home decor catalogues to find inspiration for the items she wanted to purchase. This allowed her to create a rendering of her patio – designer perk – to situate furniture items and accessories exactly how she envisioned.

To achieve the feeling of “home” she wanted from the start, Kylee made sure to include a sofa, some lamps, a rug, soft curtains, and leafy plants – all of the things you would expect to find in a room inside of her house. She also chose a black and white color scheme, with a mix of natural textures, to really establish the resort feeling in her own backyard.

Kylee’s final result was a patio that was transformed into a gorgeous and relaxed oasis to entertain friends and lounge with loved ones. We’re hoping that she invites us over for some backyard hangs sometime this summer!
