Apartment dwellers are often forced to forgo the cheer and fun of holiday decorating. After all, it’s hard to decorate when you can’t make any holes in the wall and you have to haul a tree up five flights of stairs.

But, we fundamentally believe that everyone is able to bring some holiday cheer to their home. We rounded up a few tips to make your apartment decorating as stylish as you are this season!

Someday, you’ll have enough room for that gigantic Douglas Fir. For now, pick a tree that’s a little more to scale. A tabletop tree is adorable (in a Charlie Brown way), and won’t break the bank. You can place it on a windowsill or on top of a side table for a fun dose of festivity without the hassle of a full size tree.

It may seem counterintuitive, but for anyone without much storage space, real greenery is the way to go. You can get garlands and wreaths everywhere around the holidays (even Trader Joe’s), and you won’t have to find a place to store it once the season is over.

We particularly love smaller wreaths and cedar garlands. They add so much life to any decor without breaking the bank.

Everyone loves ornaments, but they tend to take up a ton of precious storage space during the year. One way to circumvent that issue is to use more linear decor — particularly string lights and beaded garlands. You can wrap them around a tree, hang them over a window or doorway, or even use them as wall decor. Once you’re done with your holiday decor, they’re much easier to store than traditional, bulky decorations.

Not everyone is #blessed with a fireplace, especially us apartment-dwellers. If you still want to create a festive mantel feel, just get creative! You can use a tv stand, a bookshelf, or a console table to create a beautiful mantel setup. Hang stockings with command hooks and decorate with a few festive greens for a fun interpretation of the holiday tradition.
