It’s been a hell of a week and after five days of work; everybody deserves a little lovin’. So, on Friday nights I treat myself. I turn the lights down low and set some candles to create the mood. Maybe I pour a little champagne. Then, when the time is right, I make my move. I saunter on over to my bed, slide under the covers, open my laptop and begin watching Netflix.

This necessary ritual would be impossible without an incredibly comfortable bed. The bed is the last thing you see at night and the first thing you see in the morning so it’s a good decision to invest in great bedding. But, you have to know what you’re looking for first. That’s why I’m here to help with the basics of bedding:

1. Pillow Talk: Choosing between pillows usually comes down to firmness, which is determined by what the pillow is filled with. If you like to sleep on your side then a Down/Feather mix provides the perfect balance of comfort and support. If you like to sleep on your back or stomach then a Pure Down pillow can give you that cloud-like softness that we all love.

2. Thread Count: The common rule with thread count is that the higher the count, the softer and more durable the fabric. While this is usually true, beware of both the quality of the thread and false count advertising. To get the most bang for your buck, look for 300-400 thread count sheets. Anything more makes a pretty unnoticeable difference in quality and a very noticeable difference in price.

3. Blanket Statements: I’m one of those weird people who likes to completely cocoon themself in blankets. When choosing that big blanket to complete your bedding, you can go with a comforter or a duvet + duvet cover. Comforters tend to be simpler to care for, but duvet covers can be swapped easily to change the look of your bed. The best comforters are 100% down feather. They cost a bit more, but they will make you never want to leave bed.

I could write a whole different post about bed styling, but in this instance, comfort comes first. So whether you’re looking for a romantic night of Netflix or you’re sleeping in till noon with a loved one, you want to get the best possible sleep. And that, my friends, is priceless.

All the love,

Dave
