Well, another year has come and gone, which means we are starting to think about the latest home decor trends in 2017. Can you believe it’s already 2017? Neither can we.
For most of us, January is a time to set goals for the year to come, and we have a feeling there’s a home project (or two) on your list that you’d like to tackle. Maybe you’re looking to bring a simple refresh to your accessories and accents, or perhaps you have a more demanding remodel project on the horizon. Either way, we’ve cultivated some of our favorite predictions for home decor trends in 2017 to get your home improvement resolutions off on the right foot.
Deep Blues and Moody Greens
As much as we love a white-on-white room, we’re excited to see some lively and unexpected pops of color. Dark indigos and striking forest greens are a dramatic way to insert a vivid pop of color into any space, and we think these powerful hues will work their way into interior design in more ways than one.
Bronze Accents
It’s no secret that we love gold and copper, but this season, we expect bronze to steal the show. We love the versatility of bronze – it plays well with other metals for an eclectic look, and it can often be perceived as a neutral. But, don’t fret! Copper was a big trend in 2016, and we think it is still here to stay. We’ll start to see copper used with more discretion and we likely won’t be inundated with copper accents like we have been in years past.
Hygge
More than a decor trend, hygge, pronounced hoo-gah (bet you didn’t see that coming), is also a lifestyle. The concept of hygge is rooted in finding happiness in the simple things, and indulging in soothing, uncomplicated pleasures. This Scandinavian approach to everyday life can be translated into home decor through luxurious materials like cashmere and chunky knit throws, indulgent scents found in your favorite candles and anything else that makes your home feel like a sanctuary in the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life. This is one trend we expect to stick around for years to come.
Acrylics
Although we’ve seen lucite and acrylic in years past, we think that acrylics will make a strong resurgence again this year. Acrylic is a minimalist’s dream come true, but we love how light and airy acrylic furniture feels in nearly any design style. It is often a great contrast and can add an edgy element to an otherwise classic design. Even better, acrylic allows your other design elements to really shine, so if you have a bright blue sofa or a hand-dyed rug, an acrylic coffee table may be your new best friend.
Athleisure
Think of this as design that features pieces that pack a punch of style, but are simple and comfortable just like your favorite yoga pants. Much like athleisure in fashion, this trend is working its way into our homes through the harmonious blend of new frames with easy and relaxed materials. We foresee materials from relaxed linen and jersey knits to more luxurious mohair and leather making their way onto clean-lined pillows, innovative accent chairs and sleek sofas.
