When Adam and Raven Gottschalk moved into their mid-century era home in Dallas, Texas in 2019, they made plans to gut renovate the entire home down to the studs. Three years later, it was finally time to makeover the primary bedroom.

In addition to a closet upgrade, the couple wanted to “improve the lighting, add seating, and go moody without feeling too extreme compared to the rest of the house,” notes Adam. “The old bedroom felt plain, too bright, and lacked inspiration.”

The fan-favorite Bachelor in Paradise couple tapped Havenly lead designer Brady Burke to bring their vision to life. “Adam and Raven wanted to go in a fully different direction with the style and aesthetic details,” he explains. “The space was neutral with a lot of silver accents, reflective mirrors, and gray tones. It lacked impact, and they were ready for a big change and a new, contemporary vibe that would represent their style.”

Ahead, see how Brady transformed the couples’ primary bedroom in just a few months’ time, from lighting and paint to furniture and functionality.

To give their space the modern-glam look they were after, Brady started by upgrading the pendant light fixture and adding a coat of black paint. “We stuck with the white trim and ceilings for an impactful, high-contrast look,” he explains. “These foundational upgrades really set the tone for the new design.”

As for the layout, Brady was tasked with filling up a spacious room and large, blank wall in a way that felt intentional and aesthetically-pleasing. “This massive wall is the first thing you see when you walk in the room,” he explains. “I went with a statement, mixed-material headboard, bold accent chairs flanking the bed, a cozy end-of-bed bench, and oversized mirrors above the nightstands to fill up the space.”

Adding warmth

With the cool, ultra-modern look established, Brady peppered in a few warm accents to balance out the look. Playing off the cognac leather straps on the headboard, he added leather bolster pillows on the accent chairs, woven storage baskets in each nightstand, brass picture frames, and a brown-toned hide rug draped over the navy area rug. “I love the coziness and balance that these warm-toned pieces add,” says Brady.

Reflecting on their bedroom makeover, Adam and Raven are so happy to have embraced the moody, high-impact style. “Brady told us not to be afraid of dark paint in a bedroom, and he was right,” adds Adam. “He really nailed the look we were going for — I love coming here to unwind after a long day!”
