Nothing inspires warm-weather daydreaming quite like the thick of winter. While we still have weeks to months of freezing temps and gray skies, spring is on the horizon and with it, a renewed sense of anticipation and optimism. And true to form, our designers are already musing about summer decor, warm-weather design trends, and all things vibrant and punchy.

This year, we’re noticing one clear trend emerging ahead of spring and summer 2025: pops of color. While color in general has been making a marked resurgence in the last few years alongside maximalism, traditional design, and pops of pattern, we’re noticing a distinct flair for vibrant, unexpected pops of color in on-trend spaces — beyond earth tones. From sunny yellow and golden ochre to avocado green, orange, poppy red, and sky blue, concentrated and intentional pops of color that make you do a double-take are hot this year.

“The all-white-everything default has been on the decline for years now, and as people get more comfortable with color and pattern, things are trending more and more vibrant,” says Havenly Director of Design and Content Heather Goerzen. “From colorful tile in bathrooms to eye-catching upholstery and color drenching, pops of color — even in primary colors — are an easy and low-cost way to add personality and showcase your design prowess in your space.”

The best thing about pops of color? When executed correctly, they feel artful and high-end, but they’re incredibly inexpensive to add to your home. Here’s how to try your hand at a vibrant pop of color ahead of spring 2025.

Adding a Pop of Color to Your Home

For the novice

For those who are somewhat color-averse and just want to experiment, start with a single piece of colorful furniture, or even something more transitory, like throw pillows. Pick a hue that complements your existing color scheme, but feels just unexpected enough to stand out. “This sort of artful color accent lends a touch of eclecticism to any home, which is a big overarching trend for the next few years,” adds Heather. “Colors like mint, evergreen, ochre, coral, cobalt blue, mauve, and sunny yellow are eye-catching, yet sophisticated.”

For the color pro

If you’re a bit more experienced decorating with color and want to take things to the next level, consider curating a colorful scheme with a few pops of vibrancy. Paint the walls, ceilings, or both in one shade, and introduce another color pop through furniture and upholstery. “You can always introduce a really punchy pop of color, and then bring in a more understated accent hue for a balanced but still colorful composition,” adds Heather. “This sort of curation requires a strong eye and and makes a space feel well considered.”
