This week’s designer tip comes from Havenly Designer, Hannah Canivez! From an early age, Hannah was fond of art and design. She graduated from Southern Illinois University, completing her degree in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. Hannah currently resides in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and enjoys cooking, hiking, painting, and photography in her free time. Here is Hannah’s designer tip of the week:

concept-havenly-1Achieving visual balance in your home is vital, but that doesn’t mean you must match your colors perfectly or arrange your furniture with flawless symmetry. Here are a few ideas for composing a space that is well-balanced, yet still fun and inviting!

  1. Choose a color scheme you like, but don’t be afraid to mix complementary colors (colors opposite on the color wheel, like yellows and blues). Stick to 2-3 key colors and repeat them throughout the space, making sure they’re spread evenly so they are not overwhelming.
  2. When arranging furniture, try offsetting a neutral sofa with colorful angled side chairs. The visual weight of the sofa will balance well with smaller, bright chairs.
  3. Don’t forget about your ceilings. If your walls are neutral, paint your ceiling a different color to make  your room pop and carry your color scheme through the space.

Happy decorating,

Mara
