Our design tip of the week comes from Havenly’s Clare McCormick. Clare received her degree in sculpture at the University of Virginia before studying Scenic Painting and Design at the Yale School of Drama. She can be found enjoying the California sunshine, practicing hot yoga, or hanging out with her dog, Eli!

Here is Clare’s designer tip of the week:

havenly-concept-board-2“As our interior aesthetics change with time, it’s easy to find oneself with a variety of mismatched wood furnishings in an array of different finishes. The good news is, this type of diversity is crucial in creating spaces with character – layering wood finishes disrupts flatness and brings texture and life to a room. The trick is to limit yourself to 2-3 tones, and to create balance by weaving each finish throughout the space.”

Thank you for the wonderful inspiration, Clare! Visit our Designer Tips and Tricks board on Pinterest for more inspiration on how to mix wood finishes!

Happy decorating,
