The *Perfect* Reading Room For You, According to Your Zodiac Sign
We look to the stars for insight on everything from love and relationships to career and money, so why not consult the celestial powers that be for design advice, too? Seriously — when you consider the fact that the Zodiac is all about innate preferences and personality traits, it’s not that crazy to heed your star sign when decorating the most personal space of all: your home.
This time around, we’re turning our attention to one of our favorite spaces in the home: the inspired Reading Room. A personal oasis dedicated to relaxation and shelf care (yes, it’s a thing), Reading Rooms are all about complementing your unique interests and aesthetic via books, 10-plus throw pillows, and the cozy armchair to end all cozy armchairs.
So, in partnership with our friends at Reese’s Book Club, we decided to design personalized Reading Rooms dedicated to each of the 12 Zodiac signs, as informed by astrologist Aliza Kelly‘s celestial insights. Ahead, find your ideal dreamy book nook, according to the stars (and our design pros):
Aries (March 21 - April 19)
Confident, passionate, and up-for-anything Aries is not one to shy away from a thrilling murder mystery or heart-wrenching drama, and their ideal Reading Room is just as bold. Jewel tones like sapphire and citrine add power and personality to the otherwise neutral base, and complement the colorful book collection.
Taurus (April 20 - May 20)
Taurus is all about luxury, relaxation, and indulgence, which calls for a soothing, perfectly romantic Reading Room (complete with soft floral wallpaper). Go all-out on a comfortable reading chaise pilled with cozy pillows and throw blankets, and complete the scene with a soothing candle, fresh flowers, and a glass of wine (obviously).
Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
Known for their spontaneous, playful nature and never-ending list of interests, Gemini will appreciate a multi-faceted Reading Room filled with multiple light sources, seating options, and side tables to suit their (many) moods. Naturally curious, a large, wall-to-wall bookshelf is necessary to house their always-growing book collection.
Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Intuitive and emotional Cancer will feel right at home in a calming book oasis replete with serene colors, soft lighting, and plenty of cozy textiles. These natural homebodies love comfort and routine, and definitely appreciate a warm fire, comfy armchair, and a page-turner (or 10).
Leo (July 23 - August 22)
“Stylish” is the name of the game for outgoing, theatrical, and dramatic Leo. Complement their bubbly personality with a statement-making pendant light, colorful area rug, and on-trend pedestal side table because let’s be honest: their Reading Room will definitely make an Instagram appearance.
Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
Pragmatic and detail-oriented Virgo will appreciate a no-frills, highly functional Reading Room. Stick to a tight color palette and prioritize thoughtful add-ons, like an ottoman beverage tray and museum lighting for their favorite piece of art. Virgos are known to be incredibly organized, so keep decorative knick-knacks and textiles to a minimum.
Libra (September 23 - October 22)
Libra’s sign is a literal scale, so a perfectly symmetrical Reading Room fits the bill. Naturally intellectual and aesthetic-minded, balance-seeking Libra will appreciate a beautifully-designed space replete with proper window treatments, a lavish chandelier, and a beautiful upholstered daybed (bonus points for bolster pillows).
Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
No sign appreciates a dark, moody color palette quite like mysterious Scorpio. Set the tone with monochrome evergreen paint, curtains, and an armchair, and layer in unique found objects, like an animal hide rug and a gilded bird statue. Top off the look with off-kilter artwork and a collection of first-edition novels.
Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
Well-traveled, adventurous, and spiritual Sagittarius will thrive in a bright, airy Reading Room inspired by their world travels. Go with a moroccan-inspired rug and matching textiles, plus a few tropical plants and awe-inspiring artwork. Curious Sag will likely spend a lot of time here, so double up in the cozy pillows and throws.
Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
Reading Rooms were basically created for ambitious, dedicated, and hardworking Capricorn. This practical sign will appreciate a quintessential library-inspired space complete with sage green wallpaper, a cozy armchair, and cognac leather accents. Wall-to-wall bookshelves complete the look while adding functionality — Capricorns read a lot.
Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
Innovative and rebellious Aquarians don’t play by the rules, and neither should their Reading Room. A funky, unique palette of pale pinks and sage greens will complement their independent spirit, while fun pieces — like abstract artwork and sculptural shelving — add an unexpected twist.
Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
The ultimate sensitive and empathetic water sign, Pisces will feel right at home in a calming, gentle Reading Room replete with natural accents. These gentle beings are incredibly creative and often get caught up in their own fantasies and daydreams, meaning their reading nook should be quite expansive — go with an oversized armchair, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and proper ambiance.
