Sure, home decor shopping and endless scrolling on Pinterest are tried-and-true sources for design inspiration. But there’s nothing quite like a before and after reveal when gathering inspo for a new project, whether it’s a patio or a basement. Not only does a classic before and after comparison capture the palpable power of good design, each one is brimming with styling, color palette, and layout tips for a wide range of spaces.

We’ve already archived our top living room, backyard, and wall paint before and after reveals, and now it’s time for the most relaxing room in the home: bedrooms. From a coastal-modern oasis in Denver to a classic Brooklyn brownstone, the following projects are Pinterest-worthy, if we do say so ourselves.

1. From Kitschy to Calming

Before

Bright minimalist bedroom with sheer white curtains, neutral bedding, and abundant natural light

After

Modern Scandinavian bedroom in cream and natural wood with geometric patterned rug and plants

With neutral walls, tall ceilings, and plenty of natural light, our CBO Veronica Collins’ bedroom had good bones to work with. To give it a distinct personality, we leaned into an organic modern design style with a subtle boho touch — i.e. a recipe for a serene sleep oasis. The soft wood tones, earthy color palette, subtle pattern, and streaming sunlight make for a cozy and timeless “after.”

2. From Glam to Elevated

Before

Contemporary bedroom with navy blue accents, grey upholstered headboard, and layered neutral palette

After

Mid-century modern bedroom with walnut wood, black and white contrast, and geometric wall art

There wasn’t anything wrong with the original bedroom, per se, but homeowner and influencer Paola Alberdi wanted a more clean, modern aesthetic. We swapped out the glam tufted bed frame for a sleek linen number, added sculptural table lamps atop classic mid-century style nightstands, and added a layer of abstract drama with a bold area rug.

3. From Blank Slate to Breathtaking

Before

After

Overwhelmed by the blank canvas in front of her, homeowner Kristen Harrsch tapped Havenly for a glam-contemporary bedroom facelift. We opted for a classic, soothing blue and white color palette and eye-catching accents, like the matte black wall sconces, velvet end-of-bed bench, and abstract artwork (hung off-center, of course).

4. From Dated to Dreamy

Before

Cozy transitional bedroom blending warm wood tones with red patterned rug and traditional furnishings

After

Bohemian coastal bedroom with slate blue accent wall, woven basket gallery, and warm natural tones

After leaving busy New York City for calming Long Island, homeowner Danielle Chiprut was determined to bring her vibrant boho aesthetic along with her. We started with a coat of Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy, added in natural elements like the wooden headboard and basket artwork, and finished with a few high-contrast, slightly glam touches, like the wall sconces and night stands. Final details, like the pom throw blanket and dried flowers, give it a signature bohemian touch.

5. From Beige to Bright

Before

Elegant traditional living space with herringbone wood floors, fireplace, and arched windows

After

Sophisticated classic bedroom with crystal chandelier, white drapes, and timeless neutral elegance

With stunning architectural features and historical charm, this bedroom (belonging to our very own Shelby Girard) just needed a little design love. A lighting upgrade, proper window treatments, and a coat of crisp white paint restore this classic bedroom to its former glory. Finished with a gorgeous linen bed frame and layered textiles, the “after” space is equal parts classic and cozy.

6. From Sparse to Statement

Before

Industrial minimalist bedroom with exposed beam, warm grey bedding, and clean architectural lines

After

Modern minimalist bedroom with black accent wall, natural wood ceiling beams, and pendant lighting above white bedding

TV host Keltie Knight was looking to add personality to her plain L.A. bedroom, which for her, meant going bold. We added eye-catching trim and black paint to create a design focal point, a statement light fixture to accentuate the tall ceilings, and global-inspired textiles for a storied look. Finished with plants, a decorative bookshelf, and basket wall hangings, this once-bland bedroom is nearly unrecognizable.

7. From Basic to a Breath of Fresh Air

Before

Spa-like master bedroom with warm taupe walls, blue bedding, large windows, and plush gray carpet

After

Serene coastal bedroom in crisp whites and soft blues with woven pendant light and upholstered bed

Our CEO Lee Mayer did a full design overhaul in her Denver, Colorado bedroom, including swapping carpet for hardwood floors, installing eye-catching wainscoting, and painting the walls a crisp white. From there, we added statement lighting, tonal curtains, and a sea of cozy textures and materials for a straight-up dreamy bedroom design.

8. From Vacant to Vacation Home

Before

Calm minimalist bedroom with soft gray walls, crisp white linens, and natural light from windows

After

Airy bedroom featuring blue tie-dye headboard, cream bedding, natural rattan nightstand, and greenery accents

Looking to add life to her family vacation home in Malibu, California, Havenly client Annie embraced a more on-the-nose vacation aesthetic with an elevated twist. We set the stage for a tropical escape with a custom bed from The Inside upholstered in CW Stockwell’s iconic Cornflower Martinique Encore, and complemented the look with tonal custom throw pillows from the brand. Finished with a faux lemon tree and edgy black and rattan nightstands, the space is equal parts breezy and refined.
