Winter is here! Hip-hip, hooray! And with this time of year comes fun decorating ideas that transform your space into the perfect place for others to gather, relax, and connect. It must be said, though, it’s easy to go overboard when decorating for the winter months. To help you  make the most of your winter style, we’ve compiled a list of ten things not to do when transitioning to your winter scene.

Do Not:

1. Ignore The Entry Way: This is the space guests first see when entering your home. Don’t forget to give it a little holiday cheer.

2. Neglect Your Dining Room Table: This is the space where all your guests will gather – so make it a show-stopper!

3. Forget To Declutter First: Space is key to making a festive look feel chic. Tuck away pieces you’re not using to give your holiday accents room to shine.

4. Go Overboard: Sometimes, less is more. And in the case of winter decorations, that is oh-so-true. Don’t make your space feel claustrophobic by forgetting to take a step back and reign it in when necessary.

5. Match Everything: Not everything has to be in the same color family. Add in some neutrals or an eye-catching metallic to add some interest and excitement to your space.

6. Limit Your Color Palette: Red and greens are the classic colors of the season, but our designers love to incorporate moody jewel tones and metallic pieces to give a space some drama. Try it out in your home!

7. Forget Details: Take time to add details to make your space that much more magical. You can switch out your throw blankets for faux fur or place holly around your home to add elements of detail. Whatever it is, take time to add details of winter throughout your home.

8. Limit Yourself To One Room: Bring the winter feel to every space in your home, not just the main common living space. Share some of the wintry decor love to your whole home.

9. Forget Personal Touches: Mass marketed winter decorations are aplenty. Don’t forget to incorporate family photos, heirlooms, or holiday kids crafts among your winter decor. Make it yours.

10. Neglect The Element Of Comfort: No matter how stunning the space, it’ll be difficult to appreciate your stylish winter home if you can’t take a moment to sink into something warm and appreciate the view.
