It has been said time and time again that we are a country of stuff. We have basement crawl spaces, closets tucked under the stairs, and an entire genre of television shows dedicated to people who have too much stuff, people who sell other people’s stuff, and people who teach other people to live without so much stuff.

Here at Havenly, we’re all about balance, politely landing somewhere in between hoarder and minimalist. We think that filling your home with objects that mean something to you, speak to your personality, or bring you joy is a positive thing. The good stuff, so to speak.

Knowing full well we can’t always take the “throw it out” approach, the question then becomes, “What to do with what remains?” Though stuff will always be a part of life, clutter doesn’t have to be. The solution is thoughtfully-planned storage options (and of course, cute storage boxes) in every room of your home to easily sort stuff and tuck it out of sight. In short, doing stuff in style.

Hidden storage options are a great way to declutter and conceal; sort and stash; so while you may have a phone charger on your kitchen counter, you and your dinner guests will never know. Ahead, find 13 cute storage boxes that will help you stylishly conceal clutter in every room, plus pro storage tips from Havenly designer Brady Burke.

For Pantries & Cabinets

Clear stacking containers, like these from Wayfair, are invaluable around the home. The lucite-esque material is as chic as storage can get, and their see-through design makes them ideal for stashing objects that you commonly need to access — like beauty products and hair accessories in the bathroom, or hats and belts in the closet.

For Living Rooms & Bedrooms

The ultimate in sneaky storage is the lidded ottoman. This one from The Inside has a cream and blue stripe, which pairs well with a variety of design aesthetics. Use it in the living room to store throw blankets, and if you’re short on space, have it double as a coffee table by placing a small tray on top. It will also come in handy in a small closet, whether as a spot to sit while putting on your shoes, or a place to stash seldom-worn clothing.

For Dresser & Vanities

This Pottery Barn jewelry box is one of our favorites because it’s a storage option that you want to show off. Its black pebbled leather exterior is classic and handsome, and a suede interior that feels luxurious every time you reach inside. It would be an elegant addition to a vintage burlwood dresser, a modern vanity, or even a nightstand in small spaces.

For Home Offices & WFH Nooks

If you don’t have a dedicated office space, the eyesore of the home often becomes the desk (and all the elements that come with the desk) shoved into the corner of a living room or bedroom. It’s hard to make the office-slash-something chic, enter Crate and Barrel’s “The Vault.” You can stash old file folders, duplicate house keys, rarely used credit cards, and the roll of stamps you use once a year. This is the junk drawer for design aficionados.

For Countertops & Shelving

Ask any professional organizer what their number one rule of thumb is, and it’s likely to be “sort and contain.” If you can do it in beautiful glazed stoneware, even better. This set from West Elm come in a variety of sizes and can be used in a variety of settings — baking items in the kitchen, beauty products in the bathroom, etc. Plus, their earthy tones are tasteful and unobtrusive.

For Shelving, Closets & Open Floor Space

The lidded rattan basket is the workhorse of home organization. Its uses are endless and its style is timeless. These Pottery Barn beauties would look just as good next to a sofa stuffed with dog toys as it would behind a closet door housing all your winter essentials. The lid allows for an element of seclusion for the more unsightly stuff.

For Entryways & Mudrooms

There are some things that should go in drawers and lidded boxes, and there’s other things that can be displayed. Do it in a beautiful way with this teak wood organizer, perfect for keys and mail in an entryway or *that spot* in the kitchen where you stand to write to-do notes and sort bills.

For Styled Consoles & Bookshelves

These brass boxes from McGee & Co. are truly just as useful as they are beautiful. In fact, we’d stack the trio on a bookcase solely for styling. But of course, doubling as storage is even better. We love the look of all three, one on top of the other, on a living room shelf, and inside, old photographs, or memorabilia that you gather over the years.

For Small Apartments & Studios

One of the first things our Havenly designers tell small-space clients is that the more furniture that has dual purpose, the better. This walnut and brass coffee table is ideal for those studio dwellers who need to maximize every single square foot of space.

For Your Pets' Go-To Nook

We all love our pets, but perhaps not all the stuff that comes with them. This bone-shaped seagrass basket is the perfect way to accept the fact that their stuff is not going away, so you might as well display it. It’s a cheeky and fun while getting the job of storage done. We love this next to a front door to make the grab-and-go walks seamless and contained.

For Throw Pillows & Blankets

These Cove Goods handled baskets are great for storing items that can be displayed–blankets, toss pillows, entryway hats and gloves, even sweaters or scarves in a closet. One is just fine, but we love how the look as a set or trio, haphazardly placed near each other.

For Drawers in Every Room

We think these bamboo drawer organizers were invented to bring order to the chaos of the junk drawer. Even if all the junk drawers elements remain, at least they’re sorted and stacked. Organize them however makes sense to you, but we suggest creating groupings based upon the room they’d normally go in… office stuff and bedroom stuff and bathroom stuff.

For Bathrooms & Vanities

One of the most underutilized spaces in a bathroom is under the vanity, often an unorganized pile with no rhythm or reason. Sort and store hair products in one drawer, makeup in the other, then get a set or three of them to fill the width and depth of the space. Take it an extra level with beautiful labels defining what is in each drawer.
