Pinterest has long been a friend of design lovers. A digital mood board brimming with inspiration across interior design, DIY, home renovations, decorating, architecture, and beyond, this platform is a consistent go-to for those looking purely for inspiration — not necessarily to post or create content themselves.
So when the social media channel posts about trend predictions, we pay attention. Their Pinterest Predicts report just landed for 2025, showcasing the trends that both consumers and advertisers will see as this year unfolds. Based on global data and keyword research across the platform, Pinterest believes that “more people are leaning toward bold forms of expression and maximalism,” and that this year is all about making a statement, from clothing to home decor.
This leads us to one of their primary trend predictions in the home space: Mix & Maximalism. “For 2025 decor, more is more,” reads the report, citing a marked increase in search terms like “eclectic boho bedroom,” “eclectic apartment,” “eclectic maximalism,” and “vintage maximalism.” This trend is all about bold pattern mixing, eclectic prints, textural layering, and beyond when it comes to decorating homes.
Considering we just named “modern eclecticism” as one of the biggest trends of 2025, we wholeheartedly agree with Pinterest. Minimalism and minimalism-adjacent design trends like organic modern, warm minimalism, scandi, and modern boho are fading out of the spotlight, making room for more maximalist looks that put color and pattern at the forefront.
Embracing Maximalism in Your Home
For the novice
We know — maximalism can be a far leap for those still firmly planted in the cool minimalism camp (we see you!). Remember: you certainly don’t have to give up your white walls and neutral furniture to test the waters with maximalism (if that interests you). Instead, add color and pattern to your space with decor, textiles, and maybe a piece of statement furniture if you can see yourself using it for next next few years. Experiment with bolder colors and statement patterns like floral, botanical, and even animal print with throw pillows, and consider colorful ottomans or eye-catching artwork. It’s all about experimentation here, so have fun with it!
For the pattern pro
If you’re more comfortable with color and pattern and want to go all-out, consider the ultimate maximal vibe: a single pattern, all over. We love The Inside for matching printed furniture, wallpaper, curtains, and beyond — you can even buy fabric by the yard for your own creations. But the key here is to really commit to the bit and offset your chosen fabric with a counter-balancing accent color (in this case, blue), and an opposing pattern that offers a little contrast (in this case, the geometric bedding against the all-over floral). When done right, it looks absolutely stunning and certainly garners attention.
