If you’re a voracious reader, you probably already have a favorite sink-right-in chair where you cozy up with novels and an expansive bookcase to house your collection. There’s also a good chance you’ve been dreaming of creating an entire space dedicated just to self care (or as we like to call it *shelf* care) through reading. And that’s precisely why we launched our Reading Room partnership with Reese’s Book Club, which provides the encouragement and resources you need to craft the ultimate home library.

As part of the collaboration, our designers curated three distinct reading rooms, each of which celebrates literary love in a totally different style. Whether you aspire to Mad Men-esque retro vibes, a neutral Nancy Meyers aesthetic, or a stylish academic look, one of these spaces is bound to inspire your plans for your own personal reading room. Read on to discover the next chapter for your home, including the perfect bookcase with reading nook.

Mid-Century Mood

If you’re drawn to sipping whiskey, wearing leather house loafers, and living life in Don Draper style, this mid-century reading room is for you. It begins with a timeless black and white palette, which is accented by a vibrant pop of blue and plenty of walnut wood tones.

We recommend structured lines to ensure that vintage-yet-modern feel, but don’t forget to weave in a variety of textiles for a cozy flair. Consider mixing a velvet chair with a shearling pillow and a plaid throw like Havenly lead designer Brady Burke did here.

Literature Luxe

If your idea of cozy reading time is complete with bubbles, macaroons, a cashmere throw, and a silk robe (think: any Nancy Meyers movie), then look no further. Havenly co-founder and CEO Lee Mayer put together this spa-like reading room so every book feels like a vacation.

For our glam readers out there, we urge you to lean into traditional silhouettes, brass finishes, and a chic neutral palette that lets colorful book jackets take center stage. Keep things clean yet layered, anchoring the scene with large statement pieces like a wingback chair and a gilded bookcase.

Classic and Cozy

If we can find you turning the page in a classic cardigan or a crisp white button-up with Beethoven playing in the background, this academic reading room is calling. It’s ideal for those scholarly readers who want an elevated backdrop for consuming literature.

Havenly lead designer Vivan Torres suggests skipping the chair in favor of an elegant slip-covered chaise and pairing it with a shelf display of all of your must-reads, family heirlooms, and artifacts. Meanwhile, a fur throw, a scented candle, and plush pillows bring all the coziness. Alongside a crisp sauvignon blanc and decadent dessert, of course.

Inspired to create your own shelf care sanctuary? We’ve got plenty more reading room inspiration, but first, take our style quiz to pinpoint your unique home vibe.
