With the hectic back and forth of our weekday schedules, we rarely get the chance to enjoy an evening dinner in our formal dining rooms. It’s no wonder that the dining room is getting forgotten when it comes to recent interior design trends – many prefer the functionality and convenience of eat-in kitchens and expansive kitchen islands. After all, when was the last time you enjoyed a relaxed evening in your dining room with a glass of wine, and music playing in the background?
Dining rooms used to be the center of the home, where people gathered at the end of every day and shared a meal as a family. This week, our designer Amy F. helped her client Sonya K. breathe new life into her dining room and reawaken its purpose as a place to gather and share food with loved ones.
But this dining room in particular wasn’t destined for traditional finishes. Sonya had amazing Dorothy Draper chests with beautiful brass detailing that she wanted to incorporate, in addition to a pink and navy persian rug that was already living in the space. Each of them statement pieces in their own right, Sonya was also looking to make them work with a gilded cage base dining table from Horchow – talk about glamour!
It might seem difficult to make navy and pink work against the black and gold combination, but Amy embraced the challenge and delivered a design for Sonya that was full-on eclectic glam. Using the same tonal elements from all three of Sonya’s statement pieces, she managed to create a space that had personality but still felt cohesive with the design for the adjacent living room. The result is a dining room that’s truly deserving of its purpose to bring people together.
If your dining room is in need of a fresh breath of life, don’t delay! Amy and our other Havenly designers are thrilled to help you transform your space, no matter the challenge. Everyone deserves a beautiful home – begin with yours, today.
