There’s something about Gilmore Girls and Stars Hollow that feels particularly charming, quaint, and cozy come fall. Once the temperatures drop below 70 degrees, we always find ourselves queuing up the whimsical early-2000s series and reentering the charismatic world of manic Lorelai rants, Babette and Miss Patty gossip, and acerbic one-liners from Paris.

And now, we invite you to do the same. For nostalgia’s sake, we decided to reimagine the countless cozy backdrops of the eccentric Gilmore Girls characters from a modern design perspective. From Lane’s edgy bedroom (sans secret floor boards) to Luke’s outdoorsy man cave, here’s where we see our beloved Gilmore Girls characters binge-eating frozen pizza (with freshly-grated parmesan cheese) and chugging coffee today. Put on a fresh pot and join us for a journey to our most beloved small (fictional) town.

Lorelai Gilmore

cozy cottage Lorelai Gilmore living room

We see cottagecore queen Lorelai Gilmore sticking to her signature aesthetic in 2022, with a few notable updates: blue accents to nod to her striking eyes, some whimsical wallpaper, and warm, traditional furniture. Not pictured, of course, is the old TV — a modest set perfect for watching the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka while binge-eating Chinese food from Al’s Pancake World. Her new space still feels perfectly cluttered, a touch feminine, and quirky — just like the inimitable Lorelai.

Rory Gilmore

Whether Rory ends up with Jess or Logan (we’re team Jess, but we will likely never have closure on this topic), we see her modern-day bedroom as a reflection of her personality: bright and youthful, yet very polished and put together. Complete with a desk and plenty of drawers and under-the-bed storage for her book collection, we see her writing her next New Yorker column here (or Gilmore Girls sequel, here’s to hoping).

Sookie St. James

Gilmore girls decor Sookie

Sookie St. James adds such a bubbly, lighthearted exuberance to the show, and we felt it necessary to bring that energy into her 2022 living room. With a vibrant color palette and pops of whimsical plum and berry pink, we can see Sookie snacking Toblerones on this sofa while watching Dark Shadows.

Luke Danes

Gilmore girls decor Luke

If Luke were to actually leave his apartment for a bachelor pad, we see him in a rustic, leather-clad space like this (with manly curtains, of course). From the stone fireplace to the natural wood tones, it reflects his love of nature while remaining unfussy and laid-back. Just add 10-plus flannel throw blankets.

Emily & Richard Gilmore

Gilmore girls decor Emily and Richard

While Richard and Emily Gilmore subscribe to a strictly old-monied, traditional aesthetic, we see her style evolving into a more modern, French Country look over the years. Emily would likely prefer the furniture to be genuine antiques (sourced from the Kim house), but a new crystal chandelier and grand dining table will suffice for Friday night dinners (and fights).

Lane Kim

When finally given the opportunity to reflect her personal style out in the open (instead of hiding it underneath floor boards), we see Lane Kim going all-out with an expressive, rock-and-roll look. Think: bold black and white graphics, abstract artwork, and pops of red (like many of her gig night outfits with Hep Alien). Just add a drum set in the corner, and fin!

Jess Mariano

We see rebellious yet intellectual Jess thriving in a big city apartment post Stars Hollow. This look is uncomplicated, masculine, and a touch more modern than his setup with Luke (no air mattress here). On the opposite side of this wall, we picture a whiskey bar cart setup, countless bookshelves, and a single hook for his time-worn leather jacket.

Paris Geller

Gilmore girls decor Paris

We have a soft spot in our hearts for neurotic, competitive, and fiercely loyal Paris, especially during her Yale years. We can easily picture her waking up with shots of espresso, playing chess with Asher Fleming, and practicing Krav Maga with Doyle in this library-esque space. Talk about a Reading Room.

Michel Gerard

We never actually get a peek inside Michel’s home in the series, but we picture him eating boca burgers and donning his $300 Italian loafers in a sophisticated, ultra-modern space. He loves a bit of drama, so we brought in a graphic, eye-catching rug, statement chandelier, and plush, lounge-worthy sofas for Paw Paw and Chin Chin.

Dean Forester

We’re not sure if it’s his eye color or his last name, but Dean Forester would 100% have a green bedroom. We see 2022 Dean in a cozy, all-American space complete with mid-century walnut furniture, a pared-back upholstered bed, and relaxed color palette.
