Prediction: This Is The #1 Interior Design Trend of 2025, Per Interior Designers

There’s nothing we love more than a design trend prediction, especially when it involves color and pattern (hint, hint). In keeping with our design predictions for 2024, this year is shaping up to be as dramatic, saturated, and exciting as ever, thanks to the return of maximalist design.

“Concentrated, restrained pops of pattern are one of the biggest design trends of 2025, in addition to all-over color, romantic details, and warm wood tones,” says Heather Goerzen, Havenly lead designer and Director of Design & Content. “In general, the aesthetic continues to lean more storied, layered, and dynamic as stark minimalism fades out, and we couldn’t be more excited.”

Ahead, see the biggest trends for this year, according to Heather and our team of interior designers.

IN: Pattern Pops

OUT: Solids On Solids

Warm, traditional bedroom with mustard upholstered headboard, floral patterned curtains, and cream bedding creating a cozy, classic aesthetic

In keeping with the “traditional” thread, pops of bold pattern will hit the mainstream this year as people grow more and more comfortable with print. While loud pattern felt almost taboo during minimalism’s peak (save for a subtle stripe), we’re now seeing liberal yet intentional use of more bold prints, like floral, botanical, animal, and beyond. Picture: a floral statement sofa surrounded by solid accent seating, or a solid velvet bed frame paired with bold botanical curtains. In both cases, the print is concentrated, impactful, and tasteful, not to mention eye catching.

IN: Dusty Blues & Yellows

OUT: Green Everything

Warm minimalist dining space with natural wood round table, caramel leather chairs, and soft blue storage cabinet in earthy tones

We documented the rise of green as thenon-neutral neutral in 2022, and while the versatile color will never be out of style, we’re seeing a trend towards more dusty blues and saturated yellow tones this year. Like green, these shades impart a sense of tranquility and easily create spaces that feel fresh, inviting, and equal parts modern and classic. They also offer a slightly retro, 1970s-inspired look that we can’t help but love, especially when paired with brown and warm wood tones. Bring them into your home via serene bedrooms, statement-making sofas, kitchen cabinetry, bathroom walls, and beyond — the sky’s the limit.

IN: English Charm

OUT: Cottagecore

English design influences—think stately country homes, equestrian touches, and rich, layered textures— will hit it big this year and beyond. This trend embraces the vintage charm of dark wood paneling, textured velvet upholstery, and rich floral patterns, all accented with a hint of plaid and traditional checks. It’s a celebration of timeless elegance, where every piece feels storied and considered. As a counterpoint to the fleeting whimsy of cottagecore’s rural fantasy, these elements bring in a sense of tradition, stability, and understated luxury. People are turning to these classic English touches to create spaces that feel grounded and enduring.

IN: Silver & Chrome

OUT: Brass & Gold Everything

Balanced living room with fireplace, ochre and charcoal seating, natural wood accents, and bright windows in contemporary-traditional style

Unlacquered brass and matte gold will always have a place in our homes (and hearts), but these warm metals officially hit a fever pitch of popularity in 2023 and 2024. The glossy chrome finish is back for 2025, and it’s unapologetic. From retro lacquered furniture and high-shine metals to chrome decor, tableware, and light fixtures, these cool-toned metals channel the 1970s and add a retro touch to spaces.

IN: Warm Wood

OUT: High-Contrast Black

Sophisticated living room with dark wood paneling, cream marble fireplace, terracotta sofa, and layered lighting in classic elegance

Five years ago, you’d be hard-pressed to find unpainted wood wall paneling or kitchen cabinetry in all its walnut glory. It was all about clean white walls and high-contrast black accents with smaller pops of warmth. And now, we’re seeing the opposite: warm walnut cabinetry, wall paneling, and furniture punctuated by softer, warmer colors, like ochre, brown, terracotta, olive, and beyond. The resulting look is warm, inviting, and storied (we especially love it with edgy, modern touches for some cool contrast).

IN: Curated Collectibles

OUT: Fast Furnishings

Minimalist white shelving with curated collection of sculptural ceramics and vessels in warm terracotta and deep charcoal tones

Goodbye to quick fixes and mass-produced décor. This year is all about embracing curated, meaningful pieces. This look focuses on the idea of collecting over time, with a greater emphasis on the individual story behind each item. The throwaway culture of fast home trends is starting to fade as people crave more lasting, unique pieces that reflect their personality and history. Whether it’s a vintage rug or a rare sculpture, the new emphasis is on quality and character, with each item adding to the narrative of your space.

IN: Romantic Details

OUT: Cool Modernism

Eclectic living room blending vintage glamour with modern comfort: olive green sofa, wood coffee table, crystal chandelier, and classic fireplace

Traditional design has been making a comeback for years now. But no matter your chosen aesthetic at home, romantic touches — like pleating, fringe, bolster pillows, skirting, bows, and vintage decor finds— are making their way into homes of all design sensibilities this year. From rolled arm accent chairs to skirted sofas, these small deco details add a sense of history and romance to any space. This look really sings when paired with ultra-modern accents, like travertine side tables and sculptural, curved lighting — again, it’s all about contrast!
